Small and mid-size quality teams are rarely sized for the peaks. Here is how to tell when outside help makes sense, and what to hand over. ## Signs your team is stretched - SCAR responses are overdue and nobody has time to chase or review them - Supplier audits planned for this year have not started - New suppliers are being used before qualification is finished - PPAP or first article submissions are piling up for a new program - The same suppliers cause the same problems, and there is no time for development work - Your customer or registrar has raised a finding on supplier control ## Work that outside specialists take on well - **Qualification:** supplier selection support, assessments, audits and PPAP reviews. - **Management:** NCR and SCAR management, supplier dashboards, quarterly business reviews and supplier development programs. - **Training your suppliers:** corrective action, PPAP, internal auditing and certification training. - **Supply chain security:** assessing suppliers' security and planning mitigations. ## What to keep in house Keep the decisions: who is approved, for what scope, and what happens when a supplier fails. Keep the relationship with your most strategic suppliers.
